Can You Hear Us?
Summer 2022 Poetry Slam

Presented in Partnership with Button Poetry

Calling All Storytellers + Listeners!

Can You Hear Us? derives from the protest chant "Can you see us? Can you hear us? Can you feel us?"

The event aims to give a platform to poets with stories related to the 2020 Uprising, particularly poets of color.  Aligned with our theme for this year, "We Will Heal Us," this event aims to heal and to empower through giving community members a platform to tell their stories and by building community through art.  An additional plus pizza will be provided before the event! We are proud to be partnering with the national arts organization Button Poetry for this event.

Can You Hear Us? will take place at Sabathani Community Center from 6-8 PM on July 28th. Pizza from Pizza Lucé will be available from 5 PM. Come out to build community and listen to great art! In addition to event costs, tickets and all donations will also fund our upcoming exhibition "Voices of the Unheard".  Click here for tickets. The slam is open to all! Tickets are "pay what you can" (0$ to 10$).

Masks are required, and temperature checks will be performed for COVID-19 safety. Vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72-hours is required upon entry.

Poets will have the chance to be featured on Button Poetry's YouTube channel, which has over 1.3 million subscribers, and receive a cash prize. Please fill out this form if you are interested in performing.

Can You Hear Us? is part of GFGM's Art + Justice series.
